CSU Desert Studies Center, Zzyzx

19 Aug, 03 PM - 20 Aug, 10 AM

This project may involve two trips: the first visit to scope out the area to see if there are suitable sites to observe that match the class learning outcomes, which are broadly examining water quality, groundwater-surface water interaction, active and historic mine sites, environmental impacts from mine sites like legacy sediments and dust exposures, and environmental impacts from energy use. We also talk about saline lakes and desert exposures/health impacts. If the scoping visit indicates there are plenty of sites that meet the class learning outcomes, we'd like to return with a small class (around 12-15) in Fall 2025. No sampling is intended for the scoping visit, and likely not for the actual class visit unless an opportunity arises during scoping. There will probably be 2 faculty, maybe 3, interested in the 1-3 night scoping visit.
