CSU Desert Studies Center, Zzyzx

26 Apr, 10 AM - 27 Apr, 09 AM

Bio 421 Herpetology focuses on the taxonomy, natural history, ecology and distribution of amphibians and reptiles of Southern California. To meet the requirements of this course, students will be going into the field to practice identifying native amphibians and reptiles and learning about the ecology, behavior, and conservation efforts of native species and associated habitats. Students are required to attend one of two overnight trips, including an overnight trip to Zzyzx, to survey for native reptiles and possible amphibians. Students will be walking on the bajada surveying for reptiles and possibly catch non-threatened, endangered, or venomous reptiles using a noose and pole method and returned back to site of capture after showing it to the class. All methods are approved per my DFW SCP.
