continue coral and plastic pollution project, plastic degradation experiments
Briana: To ensure that experiments remain in place for the full duration of 2 years, high strength, all-weather concrete, and masonry anchoring adhesive (epoxy) is used to secure metal bolts to the beachrock in which the experiments are attached to. Four anchor points are used to secure the experiment in place. Rock climbing sterling silver metal bolts are installed to the beachrock by drilling a ½ inch wide holes approximately 3 inches deep, filling the hole 60% with epoxy (to prevent spilling over top of hole), and placing the anchor in the epoxy. The specific adhesive used (A7+ high strength, quick cure, all-weather concrete % masonry anchoring adhesive by redhead) cures quickly allowing for solidification in 45 minutes to an hour (cure time is reflective of the outside temperature). Replicates of sediment pouches will be removed every 6 months for 2 years (4 total collection points). Once the 2 years have elapsed the bolts and epoxy will be removed from the bedrock.
