Burns Pinon Ridge Reserve

28 May, 03 PM - 30 May, 12 PM

I plan to to collect field recordings in the surrounding outdoor areas of the Burns Pinon Ridge Reserve at various times of day & night. I plan to take notes on this process, and work on research indoors. The purpose of collecting these recordings is to later transcribe them, and use them as examples of environmental temporality in my dissertation. In this process, I will try to develop new notational tools for visualizing cyclicality and rhythmic elasticity in natural soundscape. I will specifically look for morning, evening and nocturnal animal sounds, particularly crickets and night birds. If time allows, I would also like to create musical work at the indoors site, using the process of field recording and time spent outside in the reserve to internalize these temporal and rhythmic processes, and translate them into musical properties. I will bring my electric keyboard and portable recording equipment to record these creative works. In the ideal case, I will collect 30 minutes - 1 hr of environmental sound that demonstrates cyclicality and elasticity.
