The Perseid meteor shower, one of the most anticipated annual celestial events, offers a unique opportunity for scientific research and public engagement in astronomy. The Joshua National Park's dark and remote location provides an ideal setting for capturing and studying the meteor shower phenomenon. This research proposal aims to conduct a comprehensive observation of the Perseid Meteor Shower of the Year at Joshua National Park to gain insights into its characteristics and contribute to public awareness of celestial events. The main objectives of this research are as follows: a) To observe and record the meteor activity during the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower at Joshua National Park. b) To analyze the spatial and temporal distribution of the meteors to identify any patterns or trends. c) To assess the influence of environmental factors (such as light pollution and weather conditions) on meteor visibility. d) To engage the public in the observation process and promote awareness of astronomy and celestial events. Research Methodology: a) Instrumentation: We will set up a network of high-resolution all-sky cameras strategically placed across Joshua National Park to capture meteor activity. These cameras will be synchronized to accurately record the precise location and time of each meteor sighting. b) Data Collection: Observations will be conducted during the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower, expected around August 12th. Continuous data will be collected throughout the night to capture as many meteor events as possible. c) Environmental Monitoring: We will also gather data on local weather conditions, light pollution levels, and other relevant environmental factors to evaluate their impact on meteor visibility. d) Public Engagement: Public outreach programs will be organized, including stargazing events, astronomy workshops, and educational sessions to involve park visitors and residents in the meteor shower observation process.
