Rules and Regulations
Group lead is responsible for misuse, damage, or negligence and for informing all group members of the rules.
PROPERTY:
- No pets, no smoking/vaping, no firearms.
- No fires.
- Practice leave-no-trace; any object that is disturbed should be restored to its original position.
- Avoid disturbance to plants, lichens, soil crusts, field markers, and research equipment.
- Drive slowly, stay on roads, and check your tires for wildlife before driving.
- The reserve borders private property, do not enter private property without authorization.
HOUSE AND TRAILER:
- Leave facilities clean; failure to do so will result in cleaning fees of $100 per hour with a $100 minimum.
- Confine projects to outside areas or the shop (down the road across from trailer)
- Store food securely and do not leave any food behind.
- Turn off lights and other electrical appliances when not in use.
- Bring your own bedding (sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows) and bath towels.
- Kitchen pots, pans, dishes, and utensils are provided.
PERMITS:
- Collecting, harvesting, or any manipulation of plants, animals, habitats, or artifacts requires explicit permission from the Reserve Manager.
- You are responsible for obtaining all required federal, state, local, and university permits prior to any activities.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
- All work must clearly acknowledge the UCNRS BURNS PIÑON RIDGE RESERVE.
- Submit publications, conference proceedings, abstracts, technical reports, theses/dissertations, etc. to reserve staff on an annual basis (by June 30 of each year).
Directions
The Burns Piñon Ridge Reserve is in Pioneertown, California, in the Morongo Basin, just north of Yucca Valley and roughly 25 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park. It is a three hour drive from UC Irvine and two hours from UC Riverside. Detailed directions will be provided upon approval.
