Santa Cruz Island Reserve
22 Jul, 11 AM - 25 Jul, 03 PM
This program focuses on cutting-edge science and technology practices with the ancient wisdom of the Chumash a maritime people with a deep-rooted, 14,000-year relationship with the ocean and Channel Islands. We want to provide a 3-4 day overnight trip on Santa Cruz Island to introduce participants to the National Park and Marine Sanctuary, engage in outdoor recreation, participate in science research projects, and be immersed in the Chumash peoples traditional homeland. This blend of indigenous knowledge, history, and Western science builds upon students cultural backgrounds, deepens their relationships with the natural world, and fosters academic confidence.
