Vegetation surveys will be conducted according to the CDFW-CNPS Rapid Assessment/Relevé Protocol during our visit to the UC Carpinteria Salt Marsh. We aim to collect surveys that are representative of the vegetation composition of the various vegetation communities present on site. Rapid assessments are plotless surveys that are generally conducted within stands of woody vegetation, and relevés are surveys within 10-100m2 sized plots that are generally conducted in stands of herbaceous vegetation. For each survey, field botanists collect data on GPS location, topographic variables, soil characteristics, wildlife habitat relationships, vegetation species, cover, and height, and denote any observable disturbance history.
