The proposed fieldwork includes in-situ measurement of methane emissions and sediment sampling. An emission chamber (i.e., modified plastic box) will be deployed in the hypersaline pool and along the channel for several hours, which is connected to a portable greenhouse analyzer to quantify the methane emission rate from the underlying sediments. Push cores will be sampled in the hypersaline pool, freshwater sites and in the channel close to the entry of the CSMR, respectively. The upper 5 cm of sediments at these two sites will be collected separately in a 250 ml bottle.
