Carpinteria Salt Marsh Reserve
23 May, 12 PM - 24 May, 08 PM
UCSB Professor Kelly Caylor and PhD student Evan Heberlein will be conducting an experiment measuring water velocity in a tidal channel in the salt marsh using a UAV mounted with a thermal infrared camera. We will place a velocity sensor (ADV) in the channel for validation data, and fly the UAV for 10-minute intervals one hour before and after the evening high tide on Monday May 23 and Tuesday May 24 to measure the velocity of the tidal flow. This velocimetry method using infrared images is known as IR-QIV, and this experiment will help export this methodology to a UAV application.
