The proposed fieldwork includes in-situ measurement of methane emissions and sediment sampling. An emission chamber (i.e., a modified plastic box) will be deployed in the hypersaline pool and along the channel for several hours, which is connected to a portable greenhouse analyzer to quantify the methane emission rate from the underlying sediments. One push core up to one meter will be sampled at a marine site in the channel close to the hypersaline pool using a peat borer.
