Carpinteria Salt Marsh Reserve
22 Jul, 10 AM - 22 Jul, 04 PM
Our primary goal of this UAS flight is a one time flight at 350ft to collect imagery data for practice purposes. The Geography SAND Lab and Wingtra Drone employees will be attending the training session held at the Carpinteria Salt Marsh on Friday, July 22nd. The morning of, the team will have a briefing on safety measures and risks, as well as the flight plan and steps taken to perform a drone flight. We will then head to the marsh and set up a base station at a designation ground control point prior to the beginning of the flight. The flight plan and boundaries have been decided and relayed to the reserve manager. We have adjusted the flight plan to remain 150' away from the housing and railroad tracks. This flight plan is uploaded to the drone controller, which is then relayed to the drone for an automated flight.
The flight steps are as follows:
1. Ensure batteries are plugged in.
2. Ensure nose cone and tail fin are properly affixed and that the props have been secured/tightened.
3. Ensure communication link established between tablet and platform.
4. Go through and check off the mandatory pre-flight checklist through the WingtraHub tablet app, required before take off.
5. Confirm safe conditions and that crew members are aware of imminent take off and at a safe distance.
6. Confirm launch authorization.
7. Platform autonomously takes off, climbs to altitude, and conducts preprogrammed flight path.
8. Maintain visual line of sight and communication with ground team.
9. Upon completion of the flight the platform autonomously returns to take off location and lands itself.
All equipment and materials will be removed after the flight.
