The proposed fieldwork includes in-situ measurement of methane emissions and sediment sampling. An emission chamber (i.e., a modified plastic box) will be deployed in the hypersaline pool and along the channel for several hours, which is connected to a portable greenhouse analyzer to quantify the methane emission rate from the underlying sediments. Push cores will be sampled in the hypersaline pool, and a marine site in the channel close to the hypersaline pool, respectively. The upper 5 cm of sediments at these two sites will be collected separately in a 2L bottle.
