Carpinteria Salt Marsh Reserve

26 Mar, 12 PM - 09 Apr, 12 PM

The purpose of this trip is trap and capture voles for our lab colony at UCR. Our field sampling involves setting 50-75 Sherman traps in open habitat (meadows, clearings). The voles will be captured and relocated to a room in the vivarium of UCR to start the live colony. The progenies of these wild caught voles will be used for a behavioral assay. We aim to capture 20 California voles (10 males and 10 females) per site for our lab colony. We caught a total of 8 voles (6 female and 2 males) during our last visits. This is a four attempt to catch more to avoid inbreeding in the lab colony.
