We plan to collect 3-5 shallow sediment cores (up to 10cm) from brackish and freshwater regions of the wetland alongside water samples. We also plan to collect ~ 100 mL of sediment and ~ 20 mL of water from the region of the wetland that becomes hypersaline in the summer. The purpose of these samples is to understand where agricultural runoff may be affecting the sediment microbial community and where nitrogen penetrates into the sediment.
