The entire purpose of my visit to the reserve is to take photographs, make observations of the natural resources present, and collect data, which all will be used in creating a poster about the Esselen people of Big Creek. I'll be hiking around the property with my camera to photograph areas of cultural significance (such as known mortar holes, shell middens, past village sites), important flora used by the Esselen, and other various natural resources used by indigenous peoples as they lived off the land. I'll be formulating detailed observations about the structure of the landscape and how it played into the everyday lives of the Esselen. Lastly, I'll be compiling all my observations and data together to create a poster, which will be given to the Big Creek reserve to serve as a teaching tool for visitors.
