We plan on sampling different size, and different species of ceanothus that are typically found in our SOD long-term plots which germinated following the 1999, and 1985 fires. Each ceanothus will be uprooted and any nitrogen fixing nodules will be collected and immediately measured for the rate of nitrogen fixation. The entire ceanothus bush will be brought back to UC Davis and dried to obtain biomass measurements.
