We plan to sample small branches from the crowns of redwood trees and use these to make measurements of branch hydraulic conductivity and the level of native embolism (air bubble presence) in the conducting cells of the wood. We will also tag individual small branches and measure their diameters so that these branches can be remeasured at future dates to track the growth rate and seasonality of growth.
