Hastings Natural History Reservation
24 May, 10 AM - 26 May, 05 PM
We are a writing group consisting of UCSC PhD students from varied disciplines in the humanities and arts division. With funding from UCSC's Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we wish to hold a three-day long writing workshop where writers with different backgrounds and expertise may share work-in-progress as well as receive feedback from one another. The work we produce from this writing workshop will variously go towards graduate seminars, conferences papers, submission to academic journals, film festival screenings, and interdisciplinary research efforts. This writing retreat aims to support members' diverse writing processes, keeping in mind that often, our most on-the-ground works grow from serendipitous circumstances we cannot easily foresee, including connections to the lands we are in. Acknowledging that the lands the university stands on are the unceded territory of the Awaswas speaking Uypi tribe, we apply for using the UC's natural reserve for an opportunity to nurture embodied writing practices on lands that are still healing from historical trauma.
