On this visit, we would like to take the following data: -non-destructive microclimate data around the ferns (temp, relative humidity, light, etc) -non-destructive measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm) -small surface soil samples (~1 tablespoon each, 3-6 samples per visit) for soil water potential -small leaf samples from fern sporophytes (~3-5 sq cm each, 3-6 per visit) for leaf water potential -removal of ~3-6 fern gametophytes per visit (these are 2-3 mm in diameter and abundant at these sites) -These ferns are all growing along the trail.
