Rules and Regulations

The Fort Ord Natural Reserve is home to special status species and we are all obligated under federal and state law to modify our actions to protect those species. In general access is by foot only. If you must drive, remain on the perimeter road ONLY (see Google map below). Please avoid walking on the rare annual plants when they are in bloom. 


There is no collecting of any kind, modification of vegetation, installation of research materials, or removal of artifacts without required permits AND permission of reserve management. Contact staff if you need assistance with permitting.


In an emergency call the Marina Police dispatch 831.384.7575 or 911.


To report a problem email, call, or stop by the UC MBEST office. Our primary office is in Santa Cruz so you cannot rely on us to respond in an emergency. You will be provided with contact information for the reserve manager. 


Important Information For Your Visit: 
• The gate combination is will be provided to approved users. Always close and lock gates after entry/exit, and never share the code. 
• Safety information, waivers, and reserve staff contact info will be sent to approved users. 
• Sign in at the gate kiosks each day you visit (if using the south reserve, please email us the dates of reserve visits). We need this information to highlight the value of our reserves. 
• Reserve applicant is responsible for submitting to NRS staff signed waivers for each participant before visiting the reserve.


Directions


The main gate to UCSC Fort Ord Natural Reserve is located near 711 Neeson Road, Marina, CA. (this is not our address, just a physical location to get close to the gate). Look for the gate at the dead end of Neeson Road, adjacent Marina Municipal Airport. This gate accesses the reserve North parcel, campground, and outdoor classroom. Reserve staff will provide the gate combination. Communicate with reserve staff for access information for other areas of the reserve. 


UCSC FONR office is located adjacent the reserve in the UC MBEST office building, located at 3180 Imjin Rd Suite 104, Marina, CA. 93933. Look for our office inside the main atrium building.
