Sedgwick Reserve
16 Nov, 12 PM - 17 Nov, 02 PM
Our Purple Door Students (4th and 5th graders) hike from gate 2(?) to the Ranch house. They hike with docent from Nature Bridge and learn about the natural resources, plants, and animals of the region. They spend the night at the tent cabins and participate in docent and teacher led activities.
They also have a Samala Language and Culture teacher that hikes in with them. They talk about the land and its relation to the Samala Chumash, the indigenous people of Sedgwick Reserve. They sing Samala songs and play Samala games. They produce a Samala craft or skill. This is all a part of their biweekly Samala language and culture class that is a regular part of their curriculum.
The trip is important for our placed based learning and our social and emotional life skills program. The team building activities help support a strong bond within the class that they will use through out the year and for their spring week long trip to Camp Ocean Pines on the Big Sur coast.
