Shoot a fishing line into a large Quercus lobata with a slingshot through a high but sturdy branching point, then hoist a nylon string using the fishing line. The nylon string will then be used to set a climbing rope. I will climb into the canopy and from as high as is safe then use clipper poles to cut the terminal 480 cm or so of the branch that is as far as possible from the stem base. This branch provides the main samples needed. I would also take samples of the outermost wood plus bark with a saw and chisel from points 960, 1920 cm from the tip, plus from the stem base.
