We plan to take STEM undergrads from the surrounding community colleges, currently enrolled in the UCSB-Smithsonian Scholars Program, through a field workshop. In the workshop they will learn to use a GPS unit, a compass, a map, best hiking practices, and overall safety. This is to prepare them for more rigorous field internships in the future and give them the skills they need to be more competitive.
