Members from my research lab at University of the Pacific will help Dr. Caroline Williams' lab as they conduct surveys on G. lineaticeps, and collect G. lineaticeps for studies related to the regulation of metabolism, temperature, and water balance. On three nights, G. lineaticeps will be collected (i.e., once at three different locations) and the specific location of each cricket will be marked with a small, numbered flag. They will be weighed, individually marked (using non-toxic glue and bee marking tags), and individually housed with varying access to water for two days. They will then be released at their sites of capture, and each location will be re-surveyed for marked crickets for three consecutive nights (after which point, marking flags will be removed). Habitat features, including the temperature and water content of soil, will also be assessed at each location. In addition, assistance will be given to the Williams Lab as they collect female crickets for their research needs.
