Sedgwick Reserve
02 Dec, 12 PM - 02 Dec, 04 PM
I plan to collect one gallon-sized ziploc bag worth of surface soil (top ~2 cm) from the general area where I collected my grass samples earlier in the year. This soil will be taken back to the King Lab on UCSB campus and used to create microbial inoculum for an incubation procedure designed to assess bioavailability of carbon extracted from my grass samples. The soil samples I intend to collect this visit will be used for some methods testing in the following week, and I will need to return to the reserve again next weekend to collect a larger quantity of soil sample for use with my actual samples. As a cautious estimate, I'll say I may need to collect 10 gallon sized ziploc bags worth of soil on the second visit. If there is any sort of special permission I need to do this, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can do anything I need to do in advance as soon as possible.
I also intend to attempt to collect Jennifer King's UV radiometer from the station on Sedgwick where it is located. My understanding from communicating with Kate previously is that it is around the SO5 junction.
