Sedgwick Reserve

14 May, 09 AM - 14 May, 12 PM

We will examine animal bones in situ, near the start of the Pistol Club Loop / Blueschist Trailhead. On the public hike of May 10, we found bones a short distance off the trail, and we were unable to identify them. We believe they are from a black bear, and so we have invited Paul Collins, Curator Emeritus of Vertebrate Zoology at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, to visit the site and help identify the bones. If they are of a bear, I will ask the Reserve Director if she would like to leave them in place, or if we should return and retrieve them to add to the bone collection at the Field Station (which has no bear bones at present).
