This course is an introduction to the legal and scientific framework for assessing and analyzing the impacts of human development on the environment. The course will include a survey of different techniques for assessing impacts on various aspects of the biological and physical environment. The objective of the field trip is to visit areas that are in the NEPA or CEQA process to understand first hand the assessments performed and how the enviornmental impact statements compare with our obervations and research.
