TThis course delves into the multifaceted realm of public land issues in California, examining the complexities surrounding land management, policy formulation, conservation efforts, and community engagement. The course will explore the diverse ecosystems found in California, including coastal areas, forests, wetlands, and urban environments. Throughout the course, we will analyze the historical and legal foundations that have shaped public land policies in California. We will critically examine regulatory frameworks that influence land use, protection, and access. We will examine the challenges associated with balancing competing land uses such as agriculture, recreation, urban development, and conservation. We will also investigate the impacts of climate change, wildfire management, and water resource allocation on public land policies and ecosystems.
