Sagehen Creek Field Station
22 Aug, 10 PM - 27 Aug, 12 PM
Ambystoma macrodactylum adults and larvae will be collected and brought in for trials to measure their thermal preference and thermal performance. Adults and most larvae will be released within 12 hours. These larvae will be collected in ponds and streams around the reserve, as well as in bodies of water in the surrounding national forests. Ecophysiological data of breeding ponds will be measured by placing agar models into different microclimates for a 24 hour period. An aquatic data logger will be placed a pond where larvae where measured to collect water temperature. Under advisement of local biologists, we will mostly likely not be able to take larvae from the reserve into the laboratory. The larger project includes trips to Chickering Reserve and Lassen National Forest, to measure different populations thermal traits.
