We will be bringing 28 new AmeriCorps members together for a week-long orientation on: Sierra Nevada ecology and environmental issues; AmeriCorps, SNAP and Sierra Nevada Alliance history; professional development and networking; and first aid certification. Members will work together to prepare for their 11 months of service in 15 different organizations throughout the Sierra Nevada range, where they will be supporting local and regional work with watershed restoration and assessment, environmental education and outreach, and volunteer recruitment and support. We will be spending time indoors and outside, and will be preparing all of our meals together. At least two days will be off-site visits to restoration and environmental education trainings. All members and 2-3 SNAP staff will sleep on site. A maximum of 10 Host Site Supervisors will spend one night at Sagehen.
