Sagehen Creek Field Station

28 Jul, 12 PM - 31 Jul, 12 PM

I will be visiting Sagehen Creek Field Station to collect Formica aserva ant workers from one of the many colonies existing within the Station's boundaries. These worker ants will be transported back to the UC Berkeley campus where they will be established in a lab colony for future chemical and behavioral analysis. This work will be the final portion of data collection needed to complete my analysis of the chemical ecology of these socially parasitic ants and their host species. Field work will consist of light digging around the nest entrance and non-invasive ant collection via forceps and aspirators. I will be accompanied by a film crew in late July. They will be focusing on filming the "kidnapping" raids that these ants embark on for a future Deep Look Series by KQED. The station will be referenced in this film.
