Sagehen Creek Field Station

30 Jun, 12 PM - 30 Jun, 02 PM

Hello! We are a research group at the University of Nevada, Reno called the Nevada Geodetic Laboratory which is part of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. We would like to visit our GPS station on Carpenter Ridge where we have for many years (since 2007) been making periodic measurements to track crustal motion. This work has application to earthquake hazard science, fault activity, geodynamics, Sierra Nevada uplift, etc. The station is called "PENT" and you can see the results of data previously collected at: http://geodesy.unr.edu/NGLStationPages/stations/PENT.sta This station appears in your list under "Resources, Monitoring & Data" as a "seismic sensor" but it is a geodetic GPS station whose location is 39.419344764˚, -120.322938195˚. I would like to send my technician Bret Pecoraro to the site this Thursday June 20. He will need to enter the Sagehen area to set up the GPS receiver on an outcrop in the Carpenter Ridge area above Independence Lake and leave the instrument there to collect data for several months before we retrieve it again. His total visit time will be ~2 hours, and he need not come into contact with any area staff or other visitors. I would be happy to explain more about our work if you require more information. -Bill Hammond
