The Hydrologic Sciences Graduate Group (HSGG) annual fall retreat is held to educate members about the hydrology of a specific region in California and to foster community within the group. The 2024 retreat will be held in the Lake Tahoe region to educate participants about the hydrologic system controlling that region as well as issues impacting the sustainability of the lake and surrounding ecosystems. The trip will consist of several tours, each of which concerned with a different element of the hydrologic regime. A tour of the lake will allow participants to conceptualize the lake's hydrologic budget as well as hydrologic processes occurring within the lake such as mixing. A tour of the surrounding forest will educate participants on the hydrologic needs of the Tahoe-region ecosystem and the challenges that the ecosystem faces. Presentations by department faculty will share current research being conducted in the Tahoe area related to hydrology, ecology, and policy. Additional retreat activities such as hikes and dinners will foster community within the graduate group which can provide networking opportunities for graduate students as well as general member satisfaction.
