On this visit to Yosemite Field Station, we aim to engage in interdisciplinary discussions and research exchanges that leverage the unique environment of the reserve. The Management of Complex Systems (MCS) program is highly interdisciplinary, with students researching topics that range from water systems and wildfire dynamics to the science of science and virtual reality analysis. This diversity of perspectives makes Yosemite an ideal setting, as it allows us to observe and analyze multiple complex systems in a real-world environment. Yosemite Field Station provides a rich, dynamic landscape where ecological, social, and technological systems intersect, offering valuable insights that can deepen our understanding of resilience, sustainability, and system interactions. The presence of water systems, fire-affected landscapes, biodiversity networks, and human-environment interactions creates a living laboratory that supports a wide range of research discussions. Through site observations, structured discussions, and informal peer exchanges, we will explore how different methodologies and approaches can be applied across disciplines. Whether studying the role of fire in ecosystem management, analyzing hydrological processes, or examining decision-making frameworks in conservation, this visit provides an opportunity to connect research with tangible, complex systems. Beyond research applications, this gathering fosters an opportunity to reflect on challenges, refine methodologies, and build interdisciplinary collaborations. Yosemite’s natural complexity mirrors the challenges we face in managing systems in a rapidly changing world, making it a powerful setting for discussion, discovery, and inspiration.
