Yosemite Field Station
05 Sep, 12 AM - 07 Sep, 11 PM
My course involves teaching students to identify more than 150 species of California Woody Plants. On our field trips we visit a diverse variety of environments to find rare and habitat specialist plants, for example, high-elevation specialists like white-bark pine in Yosemite National Park or foxtail pine in Sequoia National Park. We also learn about the ecological, evolutionary and historical factors that influence the presence of these species and how different land management approaches influence plant diversity. Our class thus conforms with UC Natural Reserve System and CESU goals because it fits within the mission of research, higher education, and public service which enhances our understanding and wise‐ stewardship and the earth and its natural systems.” Operate science and education facilities in YOSE and SEKI for purposes of education and scientific research. Our class also meets some of the priorities of YOSE/SEKI because we will ““Identify and map species with rare habitats and determine conservation needs so that these species are not lost due to changing conditions”
