lodging for field researchers: Alexandre Castelein, Max Laubstein, Chrisopher J Evelyn (UCSB), Elizabeth Jocckusch (grad student of David Wagner), Kendall Muell, Brad Wineholt (USGS.gov), Sarah Villar (USGS Western Ecological Research Center, San Diego(WERC)), Ryan Siless (Palm Springs Fish & Wildlife - ryan_siless@fws.gov), Cayden Hershey (USGS chershey@usgs.gov), Chris Brown (USGS San Diego WERC), During the week of February 24 - March 3 we conducted a multi-agency survey in Anza-Borrego State Park for a recently discovered unique salamander. The work focused on springs and other potentially wet habitats where the salamanders could occur. This was part of a 20 year revisit to the status of amphibians in Anza-Borrego State Park. The two main leads were the USGS on the overall amphibian surveys and UCSB on specific elements of the salamander species. Due to the bizarre weather of 2023 there was exceptional moisture in the park and we are taking advantage of this to evaluate as many potential habitats in the park as possible before the park starts to warm up and dry out.
