Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center
17 Oct, 03 PM - 19 Oct, 12 PM
The purpose of this visit is to provide a field experience component for students enrolled in the Junior capstone course "California Environmental Problems" for the Environmental Science & Policy (ESP) program at Cal State Long Beach. During the field experience, the students will visit sites throughout Anza Borrego State Park to learn about natural resource management on public desert lands and travel to sites around the Salton Sea, including the Sonny Bono Reserve, to enhance their understanding of the ecological management of the Salton Sea, the environmental conflicts surrounding lithium extraction, and the impacts of Salton Sea ecological deterioration on local community health and well-being. This will be the fourth time the ESP 200 class has stayed at the Steele/Burnand Center.
