Rules and Regulations

Group lead is responsible for misuse, damage, or negligence and for informing all group members of the rules.

PROPERTY:
  • No pets, no smoking/vaping, no firearms.
  • No fires.
  • Practice leave-no-trace; any object that is disturbed should be restored to its original position. 
  •  Avoid disturbance to plants, lichens, soil crusts, field markers, and research equipment.
  • Drive slowly, stay on roads, and check your tires for wildlife before driving.
  • The reserve boarders private and state park land, do not enter without authorization.

 FACILITIES:
  •  Leave facilities clean; failure to do so will result in cleaning fees of $100 per hour with a $100 minimum. 
  •  Store food securely. 
  • Turn off A/C and other electrical appliances when not in use.
  • Don't pollute our night sky; turn off lights when not in use and keep front rooms dark with blinds drawn at night.
  • If staying in a dorm room, bring your own bedding (sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows) and bath towels. 
  • If staying in an efficiency unit, bring your own bedding and towels or use items in the unit.
  • Kitchen pots, pans, dishes, and utensils are provided. 

 PERMITS:
  • Collecting, harvesting, or any manipulation of plants, animals, habitats, or artifacts requires explicit permission from the Reserve Manager. 
  • You are responsible for obtaining all required federal, state, local, and university permits prior to any activities and MUST HAVE A PERMIT TO DO WORK IN ANZA-BORREGO DESERT STATE PARK.

 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
  • All work must clearly acknowledge the UCNRS STEELE/BURNAND ANZA-BORREGO DESERT RESEARCH CENTER. 
  • Submit publications, conference proceedings, abstracts, technical reports, theses/dissertations, etc. to reserve staff on an annual basis (by June 30 of each year). 

Directions

The Steele/Burnanad Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center is adjacent to the rural unincorporated community of Borrego Springs, inside the largest state park in California (Anza-Borrego Desert State Park).  It is a three hour drive from UC Irvine, two hours from UC Riverside, and two hours from UC San Diego.  

From Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs exit right on Sunset Road (0.2 mi), left on Country Club Road (0.8 mi), stay right on Country Club Road (0.4 mi), turn right on Tilting T Drive.
