On 06/28/2023, we will visit the campus build-out lands and vernal pools just outside MVPGR to assess the vernal pools for future field studies. For the vernal pools just outside MVPGR, we want to collect soil samples for preliminary analysis on 6/28/23: 1. 1-kg of surface soil for soil characterization studies at LLNL. We will collect multiple 1-kg soil samples from varied biogeochemical environments characterization at LLNL. The characterization studies will include bulk elemental analysis, total organic carbon, mineral size fractions, X-ray diffraction, and excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectroscopy. 2. 20-cm soil core, 2-inch diameter to evaluate and assess the coring process. If feasible, the core will be sectioned for the same analysis as #1.
