Autonomous Imaginaries is a community of members and practicing artists from the Bay Area that collectively reflect on the contemporary production of images from a critical and decolonial point of view.
Over the course of a year, we have been hosting reading sessions online, in our homes and art studios, and we would like to organize a retreat for the three members of our group to conclude our cycle as members of the CRG center reflecting upon our research and discussions on the themes of the meaning of the Image.
The retreat will include time for reflection, shared meals, and a working session, which would be our first studio time together creating a series of collages using images from our biographical archives, reflecting our insights in relation to visual imaginaries we are interested in bringing forward. We would like these images to become part of a future publication.
Our goal is to spend a weekend in nature, fostering care and mutual connection. We hope to visit your facilities to take a break from the city as well as our family and work responsibilities. Engaging with the natural landscape of the Bay Area—taking walks, cooking together, and sharing meals—will provide us the opportunity to wrap up our reflections on this cycle and future projections to continue working as a group. We will bring all the necessary art supplies and our own food. We would welcome any suggestions or adjustments you might have.
