The proposed activity is to cut a small sample (three up to 12-inch or less leafy stems, with flowers if present) from identifiable plant species (one sample from each species). The remaining plant will be left untouched and alive. The samples will constitute no more than 25% of the plant, and in most cases will be less than 5% of the plant, to minimize disturbance to the plant. Cuttings will be taken with a sterile disposable blade to avoid cross-contamination. The samples will each be bagged in Ziploc bags, sealed, and then transported back to my lab at University of California, Irvine for analysis.
