UCNRS RAMS

The BILD 4 course is offered every quarter, and the instructor, teaching assistants, and students will visit the Scripps Coastal Reserve. Under supervision of the instructor, teaching assistants will identify 2-4 native and exotic plants, by observations, along the Knoll Trail. We will collect small soil samples (approximately 100 g) from the ground surface and erect small markers to denote the locations. Soil samples are expected to contain microbial species, which will be removed from the Reserve. Sections of 32 students (8 in the fall, 16 in the winter, and 16 in the spring) will be led by the instructor and teaching assistants along the Knoll Trail and observe the different plant species under which the soil samples were obtained. No manipulations of the environment or species are planned, and no species are expected to be introduced beyond general human traffic.
