Scripps Coastal Reserve

BeachCOMBERS surveys occur during the first 7 days of every month during a period when the tide is low enough to complete the predefined beach segments. Two trained volunteers would walk the beach segment(s) within the Scripps Coastal Reserve/Kendall-Frost looking for beach cast carcasses and oil deposition. The volunteers collect all of the data through a Survey123 app on their phones. Currently no carcass collections are taking place due to the ongoing H5N1 outbreak; however, when it is deemed safe, occasionally carcass collection requests will be submitted from resource managers and volunteers may be asked to collect carcasses for autopsies.
