I am teaching a summer course called The Contemporary Era, which fulfills our campus' Climate Change requirement, and a GenEd requirement for students at UCSD's Eleanor Roosevelt College. The program sets the natural resources of California and conflicts over their use, conservation, and preservation, in a broader context of contemporary history. This requires students to directly experience places that we focus on in this course, including in the area in and around Yosemite National Park, the Sierras more broadly, and the mountains of Southern California. .
