Ano Nuevo Island Reserve

31 Jul, 09 AM - 31 Jul, 01 PM

Exposure to Marine Ecosystems: Ano Nuevo is home to diverse marine and terrestrial ecosystems, providing students with the opportunity to observe coastal habitats, intertidal zones, and sea life up close. This direct experience can deepen their understanding of the delicate balance between marine species and their environments. Marine Conservation and Research: The reserve is involved in important conservation efforts, particularly related to marine mammals like elephant seals. Students could learn about ongoing research and conservation projects, fostering an appreciation for the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. Field Research and Data Collection: The reserve offers an opportunity for students to engage in real-world scientific research. They could participate in activities such as species identification, data collection, and habitat assessments, which would tie directly into the principles of Ocean STEM. Connection Between Ecology and STEM Careers: By exploring the intersection of biology, environmental science, and marine conservation, students can see how STEM fields are applied in real-world scenarios. Learning about careers in marine biology, environmental science, and oceanography could inspire them to pursue further studies in these areas.
