Thank you for your interest in Burns Piñon Ridge Reserve! Your materials will be reviewed shortly. In the meanwhile, please take some time to familiarize yourself with the Reserve.

Be aware that the Reserve is relatively remote and provides a backcountry experience with some amenities. It is your responsibility to prepare accordingly.

The Reserve is home to potential hazards including bees, ants, rattlesnakes, mountain lions, and rodents. Native rodents are present in the facility and can shed pathogens such as hantavirus. Take all reasonable precautions to ensure your safety and the safety of your group. If you have allergies or severe reactions, we strongly encourage you carry appropriate medications, including an EpiPen. Ensure your traveling companions are made aware of the location(s) of your EpiPen or other medications. If you experience an emergency call 911 or get medical attention immediately. The nearest hospital is located in Yucca Valley.

No pets, no smoking/vaping, no firearms.
Practice leave-no-trace, drive slowly, and check your tires for wildlife before driving.
No fires.
The reserve boarders private property, unauthorized use could jeopardize friendly relations and future use.
Turn off lights and other electrical appliances when not in use.
Store food securely and do not leave any food behind.
We do not have housekeeping services and require overnight users to leave facilities clean; failure to do so will result in cleaning fees of $100 per hour.
Bring your own bedding (sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, pillows) and bath towels.
Kitchen pots, pans, dishes, and utensils are provided.
The group lead is responsible the misuse, damage, or negligence and should inform all group members of the rules.

Collecting, harvesting, or any manipulation of plants, animals, habitats, or artifacts requires explicit permission from the Desert Reserves Director. You are responsible for obtaining all required federal, state, local, and university permits prior to any activities.

Any work done while visiting the reserve must clearly acknowledge the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA NATURAL RESERVE SYSTEM, BURNS PIÑON RIDGE RESERVE. It is also to be submitted to reserve staff on an annual basis (by June 30 of each year) to include publications, conference proceedings, abstracts, technical reports, theses/dissertations, etc.
